1: Docking Station designed to be a DIY installation.

Both the mk2 Hide Away Safe (smaller) and mk3 Hide Away Safe (larger) Docking Station are designed as a DIY installation. If you own a drill and screw driver or spanner, depending on the fastener type being used to install the Docking Station, you can install it. Once installed the Hide Away Safe slides into the Docking Station and locked with the supplied High Security Abloy Classic or Abloy PROTEC Key.

2: How to install the Docking Station.

Due to public liability and general insurance reasons we cannot state exactly how to install either the mk2 Hide Away Safe (smaller) and mk3 Hide Away Safe (larger) Docking Station into any surface.

But what we can do is list methods both the mk2 Hide Away Safe (smaller) and mk3 Hide Away Safe (larger) Docking Station has been installed in various locations by purchasers throughout Australia and world-wide. This allows the purchaser to make the final decision how to install their Hide Away Safe Docking Station.

NB: As the Docking Station can be installed to many different surfaces this page covers most known surfaces.

3: Installing a mk2 Docking Station.

The mk2 Docking Station can be installed to almost any flat surface and at any angle, even upside down. The Docking Station has pre-drilled holes in it and we recommend what ever type of fastener you decide to use to install the Docking Station you place a fastener in the 10 pre-drilled holes to install it, 5 along each side of the mk2 Docking Station.

4: Installing a mk3 Docking Station.

The mk3 Docking Station is made from two mk2 Docking Stations joined together in the centre. When installed correctly the mk3 Docking Station is kept rigid by what it is affixed to eg. Brick, Concrete, Wood Wall or Floor, Vehicle Fixing Kit Steel Bracket, Marine Ply, 6mm Ply / Craft Wood, 3mm Steel Plate and other surfaces not mentioned.

We suggest what ever fastener type you decide to use to install the mk3 Docking Station, you place a fastener in the 5 pre-drilled holes on both sides of each mk2 Docking Station that makes up the mk3 Docking Station.

NB: The above suggests we recommend placing your chosen fastener type in all 20 pre-drilled holes to install a mk3 Docking Station.

5: Fixing holes in the Docking Station not big enough for your selected fastener.

If the pre-drilled fixing holes in either the mk2 or mk3 Docking Station are not large enough for your selected fastener type eg. screws / bolts etc. it is ok to enlarge the holes by using a high speed steel drill, the same diameter as the fastener.

6: Fastener types used to install the Docking Station.

The following are suggestions about the fastener types you can use to install the mk2 Hide Away Safe (smaller) and mk3 Hide Away Safe (larger) Docking Station onto common known surfaces.

Wood including Marine Ply or other Wood composite products.

Coach Bolts, Coach Screws, Type 17 Tek Screws or a minimum 8 gauge full thread Wood screws, as long as possible. NB: Make suitable allowance for the thickness of the attaching medium when deciding on the fastener length.
Acrylic glue (Fuller Max Bond Construction Adhesive. Fast Grip 420g, must be Acrylic water based) plus the fastener type mentioned above.

Steel

Coach Bolts, special one way Security Screws, Type 17 Tek Screws, large diameter Steel Pop Rivets, Self Tapers / Metal Thread Screws.
Acrylic glue (Fuller Max Bond Construction Adhesive. Fast Grip 420g, must be Acrylic water based) plus the fastener type mentioned above.

Marble - generally under a kitchen bench top.

Acrylic glue (Fuller Max Bond Construction Adhesive. Fast Grip 420g, must be Acrylic water based) may be used, however we highly recommend you contact your kitchen manufacturer for their recommendation.

Brick or Concrete

Specific heavy duty masonry fastenings.
Loxins as the bolt head stays a consistent height as it is tightened.
Acrylic glue (Fuller Max Bond Construction Adhesive. Fast Grip 420g, must be Acrylic water based) plus the fastener type mentioned above.

NB: Plastic Raw Plugs or similar ARE NOT TO BE USED under any circumstance.

7: Using Acrylic water based glue.

It is important to note if you every intend moving the Docking Station to another location we suggest you DO NOT use Acrylic glue. Using Acrylic glue is for the permanent fixing of a Docking Station.

Acrylic glue, must be water based eg. Fuller Max Bond construction adhesive.
