1: Why use the Shroud and Cable to secure the Hide Away Safe.

The Shroud and Cable is portable security for both the mk2 Hide Away Safe (smaller) and mk3 Hide Away Safe (larger). The Shroud and Cable can be used anywhere you can wrap the 8mm diameter Steel Cable round something solid when an installed Docking Station or Vehicle Fixing Kit, links in the navigation at the top of this page or in the Site Map near the end of this page, is unavailable.

Tip...

Hide Away Safe locked in a Shroud and Cable is as secure as being locked in an installed Docking Station or Vehicle Fixing Kit.

2: Steel Shroud

The Shroud is manufactured from 3mm thick steel and when finished its
powder coated black.

The Steel Shroud has four corner anchor points at the rear allowing the Steel Cable to be passed through to secure the Steel Shroud to a rigid item eg. a vehicle's boot hinge or the back of the front seat floor bracket. Both sides and the rear has numerous punched holes suitable for concealed fastening of the Steel Shroud to a flat surface if required.

The bottom of the Steel Shroud has high tensile m5x8mm clinch studs with shake proof washers and high tensile nuts to match the existing fastening holes in the Hide Away Safe Docking Station, leaving additional holes for conventional fastening down of the Steel Shroud and Docking Station to a flat surface if required.

The clinch studs are attached to the bottom of the Steel Shroud by pressing them through the Steel under high pressure, making the bottom of the Steel Shroud smooth.

The advantage of this manufacturing technique is:

Having no nuts on the outside of the Steel Shroud ensures if a thief does break into a Vehicle with a Shroud and Cable there are no nuts they can undo to remove the Hide Away Safe.

3: Steel Cable

Supplied with the Steel Shroud is a 1.8 meter long spring coiled 10mm plastic coated 8mm oversized Steel Cable with an extra heavy duty four stage combination lock. The combination set by the purchaser.

Based on legislation in the ACT (Australian Capital Territory) that specify the use of a 6mm Steel Cable to secure a Handgun in a Vehicle we supply 34% extra security by including 8mm oversized Steel Cable to secure the Steel Shroud.

Note: The Steel Cable can also be used to facilitate additional security of a brief case, suit case, tool box, camera case while carried in a Vehicle, Caravan or Motor Home.

Tip...

Shroud and Cable portable security for the Hide Away Safe in your Vehicle and other temporary locations such as a loan Car, hired Car or Motel Room (wrap the Cable round the base of the toilet, security in every Hotel / Motel room).

4: How to use the Shroud and Cable.

This only has to be done once before the Shroud and Cable is used the first time. The Steel Shroud has two corner anchor points (holes) at the rear on each side, pass the Steel Cable through at least one anchor point on each side of the Steel Shroud.
Loop one end of the Steel Cable around something solid and push it into the other end of the four stage combination lock and turn the four dials to lock it. NB: You can set your own combination on the four stage combination lock.
Slide the Safe into the Docking Station and lock it with the supplied High Security Abloy Key. All contents in the Hide Away Safe are now secure.

5: Where can the Shroud and Cable be used in a Vehicle.

All vehicles, wrap one end of the Steel Cable around the back of the front seat floor bracket and push it into the other end of the four stage combination lock and turn the four dials to lock it.
If you own a Sedan, wrap one end of the Steel Cable through the boot hinge and push it into the other end of the four stage combination lock and turn the four dials to lock it.

6: Other locations the Shroud and Cable can be used to secure the Hide Away Safe.

Suggested places where a Shroud and Cable can be used to temporarily secure the Hide Away Safe:

Using a loaned or Company Vehicle.
In your Vehicle when a Vehicle Fixing Kit cannot be installed in it.
Visiting a client at their office and having to leave your Safe unattended in their office.
At your work place when their is no installed Docking Station.
Staying away over night at a Motel / Hotel.
Staying overnight at a friends house.
Overnight in your Home when a Docking Station has not been installed there.
If you are renting a House or Apartment and you cannot install a Docking Station there.
In your Caravan or Motor Home.
Or any temporary location where there is something solid you can wrap the Steel Cable round and lock it.

7: What is included with the Shroud and Cable.

Your investment to purchase the Shroud and Cable DOES NOT INCLUDE a Docking Station. If you intend to install the Docking Station included with each Hide Away Safe in your Residential Home, Office, Factory, Caravan or Motor Home and you also purchase a Shroud and Cable you will need to purchase another Docking Station to be bolted to the Shroud and Cable.

If this is the case select the appropriate Docking Station, mk2 or mk3, when you place your order.
